UAE to vie for World Cup spot in Zimbabwe tournament

The United Arab Emirates cricket team is celebrating its qualification for the Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualifier with a thrilling victory over Jersey in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off in Windhoek, Namibia, on Wednesday. The UAE had already secured their spot in the Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualifier, the final qualifying tournament for the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, after winning four out of their five matches in Namibia.

The UAE’s impressive performance in the Play-off match against Jersey saw them finish second in the points table with eight points from five matches. Only the top two teams in the tournament, the USA and UAE, qualified for the Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualifier, which will be held in Zimbabwe from June 18 to July 9.

The top two sides in the 10-team qualifying tournament will qualify for the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, which will be held in India from October 5 to November 19. The UAE cricket team will be hoping to put up a good show in the qualifying tournament to secure a spot in the World Cup.

In Wednesday’s match, the UAE made an impressive 284 for seven in 50 overs, thanks to fine knocks from Asif Khan (82), Muhammad Waseem (65), Vriitya Aravind (45), and Aayan Afzal Khan (43 not out). Jersey tried hard to chase the target, but were eventually bowled out for 218 in 44.5 overs, with leg-spinner Karthik Meiyappan taking four wickets for 57 runs.

The UAE team played exceptionally well throughout the tournament, and their performances were a testament to their hard work and dedication. The team’s captain, Muhammad Waseem, was proud of his team’s achievement and said, “It’s a great moment for UAE cricket. We have worked hard over the last few years to get to this stage, and I’m glad that we have qualified for the Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualifier. It’s a big opportunity for us, and we will give our best to qualify for the World Cup.”
