Lionel Messi offered €400 million to play for Saudi club Al Hilal: Fabrizio Romano, football journalist
Football superstar Lionel Messi has reportedly been offered an astounding €400 million yearly contract by Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, according to renowned Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano. Messi is expected to leave Paris Saint-Germain after the end of this season when his contract expires. Al Hilal has made an official bid for Messi, but according to the journalist, the Argentine prefers to continue playing for another club in Europe. Romano tweeted on Tuesday evening about Al Hilal’s offer to Messi. However, if he does accept the Al Hilal offer, he will join his great rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who now plays for Al Nassr, in the Saudi league.
At present, Barcelona is also trying to bring Messi back to Camp Nou. The World Cup winner Messi, who turns 36 in June, joined PSG on a two-year deal in 2021, which will end at the conclusion of this season. Some PSG supporters booed the Argentine’s name as the teams were announced before their 1-0 home defeat against Lyon on Sunday. Fans of the Qatar-owned club are unhappy with the team’s current state of affairs since they were eliminated from the Champions League in the last 16 by Bayern Munich last month.
In 67 appearances for PSG in all competitions, Messi has scored 29 goals and set up 32 others. Barcelona has been openly pursuing Messi, hoping to persuade the Argentine to return to the Camp Nou two years after he left the club, where he won four Champions League titles, when they could not afford to renew his contract. “I would love it if he returned,” Barca vice-president Rafael Yuste said last week as he acknowledged there had been “contact” with Messi. Messi has also been linked with a possible move to Major League Soccer, where Inter Miami is said to be interested in signing him.
