Fujairah Crown Prince Commends Global Strategic Goals at Fujairah International Mining Forum
H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, underscored the importance of focusing on the mining sector’s potential, identifying future prospects, and staying abreast of global developments. This commitment is manifested through international platforms and events that facilitate meaningful discussions among industry leaders and decision-makers. The primary aim is to collaboratively tackle challenges and devise innovative, sustainable solutions to advance the sector.
The Crown Prince made these remarks at the inauguration of the eighth edition of the Fujairah International Mining Forum, held under the theme ‘Mining Investment: Sustainable Development.’ The event was organized by the Fujairah Natural Resources Corporation and the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) at the DoubleTree by Hilton Fujairah City, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah.
The opening ceremony saw the presence of dignitaries, including Sheikh Saif bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, Chairman of the Fujairah Free Zone Authority, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, Director-General of the Fujairah E-Government, among others.
Sheikh Mohammed Al Sharqi highlighted Fujairah’s prominent position in the global mining industry and its status as an attractive investment destination in this sector. He emphasized the significant role played by the Fujairah International Mining Forum in enhancing the emirate’s leadership in this field, its support for the mining sector, and its contributions to the ‘Year of Sustainability’ initiative. Furthermore, he urged stakeholders to leverage the Forum’s opportunities, share experiences, and adopt successful practices that align with the UAE’s vision for preserving and sustaining mineral resources.
Saif Ghubash, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Petroleum, Gas, and Mineral Resources at the MoEI, stated that the UAE, through the ministry, is dedicated to supporting and encouraging investment in the mining sector. He highlighted the Ministry’s efforts to update relevant legislation and laws, develop the Mineral Resources Strategy, and promote the use of renewable energy and advanced technology to achieve the UAE’s climate change and emissions reduction objectives.
Mohamed Saif Al-Afkham, Director General of Fujairah Municipality and Chairman of the Fujairah Natural Resources Corporation’s Board of Directors, announced the launch of an award to recognize sustainable mining practices among establishments operating in Fujairah’s mining sector. This initiative aims to promote environmental innovation and sustainable development.
Adel Saqr, Director General of the Arab Industrial Development, Standardisation, and Mining Organisation (AIDSMO), lauded the Forum’s objectives and its role in advancing climate strategies worldwide. He emphasized AIDSMO’s commitment to developing the Arab mining sector through digital projects.
The two-day Fujairah International Mining Forum focuses on discussions about the mining sector’s future and investment opportunities, digital transformation trends, and best practices from Arab and international companies and institutions in the field. The event is part of Fujairah’s efforts to foster sustainable growth and innovation in the mining sector.
