BTS: J-Hope starts mandatory military service, second BTS member to do so
The K-pop sensation BTS has been making headlines yet again, as member J-Hope, whose real name is Jung Ho-seok, has officially started his mandatory military service. According to news agency Yonhap, the 29-year-old entered the venue for his enlistment ceremony in the city of Wonju, becoming the second member of the band to do so, following Jin, who began his service last December.
J-Hope took to fan platform Weverse to bid farewell to fans before he started his military duties, saying “I’ll be back later.” He also shared a picture of his newly shaved head, a common practice among Korean men when they start their military service. Fans were quick to wish him a safe and successful service period.
The members of BTS have previously spoken about their impending military service, with all members stating their willingness to fulfill their duty to the country. The group’s management company, Big Hit Music, has also stated that they will support the members as they carry out their service, and that they will continue to release music as a group despite the members being on hiatus.
J-Hope’s enlistment comes as BTS continues to enjoy massive global success, with their latest single “Butter” breaking numerous records and topping charts worldwide. The group has become a cultural phenomenon, with their music and style influencing fans all over the world. Despite their massive success, the members remain humble and grounded, often expressing their gratitude towards their fans and their country.
J-Hope is now the second BTS member to join the military after Jin, who enlisted last December and is expected to serve until June 2024. Jin also shared his experience on Weverse by posting his first-ever pictures after joining the military service in January.
The mandatory military service for South Korean men is a longstanding tradition that requires able-bodied men between the ages of 18 and 28 to serve in the military for approximately two years. This is to ensure national security and protect the country from threats.
Despite being at the peak of their careers, BTS members have always been vocal about fulfilling their duties as citizens of South Korea. Earlier this year, BTS leader RM also talked about his thoughts on military service in an interview with Esquire, saying, “As a Korean, it’s natural, and someday, when duty calls, we’ll be ready to respond and do our best.” J-Hope’s military service is undoubtedly a significant loss for the group and their fans, but they will continue to support him and all the other BTS members who will fulfill their military duties.
The military service is not only a responsibility for BTS members but also for other Korean idols and celebrities. Some have delayed their enlistment due to their busy schedules, but it’s still considered an obligation they need to fulfill.
BTS has been dominating the global music industry with their record-breaking hits, sold-out concerts, and philanthropic endeavors. They’ve used their platform to spread messages of love, unity, and positivity, inspiring millions of fans worldwide.
The group’s latest album, “BE,” released in November 2020, was a massive success, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. BTS also became the first Korean act to receive a Grammy nomination, and they performed at the 63rd Grammy Awards.
As J-Hope starts his military service, fans will undoubtedly miss him, but they will continue to support him and the rest of the members as they navigate this new chapter in their lives. With their unwavering talent and dedication, it’s clear that BTS will continue to dominate the music scene, even as they fulfill their duties to their country.
