Honeywell and Egyptian developer ROCC have signed an MoU for the development of a pioneering sustainable community.

Honeywell (Nasdaq: HON) and Egyptian developer Redcon for Offices and Commercial Centers (ROCC) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development of a pioneering sustainable community called Golden Gate in New Cairo.

The collaboration between Honeywell and ROCC aims to set a new standard for smarter and more sustainable communities in Egypt, while aligning with the government’s urban development plans. Ahmed Saleh, Business Director of Honeywell Building Technologies, North Africa, expressed pride in the collaboration and highlighted the importance of creating a sustainable example for future communities in the region.

Golden Gate, spanning 160,000 square meters in New Cairo, will consist of mixed-use buildings, standalone offices, retail spaces, and a luxury shopping zone. The community will prioritize sustainability in its design and construction, incorporating eco-friendly materials, renewable energy solutions, water and energy efficiency measures, electric vehicle infrastructure, and other initiatives aimed at reducing its carbon footprint. The project aligns with Egypt’s sustainability goals and broader commitments to combating climate change.

Honeywell has previously demonstrated its expertise in driving sustainability initiatives for buildings, having signed an MoU with Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to improve the energy efficiency of government buildings across the country.

Egypt’s Vision 2030 places significant emphasis on innovation and national development, with urban expansion identified as a key component of the plan. Creating smarter cities is seen as crucial to accommodate the country’s growing population and enhance overall quality of life.

Golden Gate spans an impressive 160,000 square meters in the heart of New Cairo and consists of five districts featuring mixed-use buildings, standalone offices, retail spaces, and a luxury shopping zone. The community’s design and construction will prioritize sustainability, employing eco-friendly materials, renewable energy sources, and energy and water-efficient solutions. The inclusion of electric vehicle infrastructure and other features will contribute to reducing the overall carbon footprint of the community. Golden Gate aligns with Egypt’s sustainability goals and broader commitments to combat climate change.
