With over a decade of experience, Dr. Chiara has earned a reputation as a skilled plastic reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon, with a practice that spans Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Ain, and Italy. Her journey from a budding medical student in Italy to becoming a renowned plastic surgeon is a story of passion, dedication, and a constant quest for perfection. In this insightful conversation, Dr. Chiara Stocco guides us through the essential aspects of plastic surgery.
Dr. Chiara introduced herself and said, “I am an Italian Plastic surgeon based in Dubai and Abu Dhabi since 2021. I am the first female Italian plastic surgeon in the UAE. I was born and raised in a small town called Rovigo, one hour south of Venice, and I did my medical school in Ferrara and the plastic surgery residency and specialization in Trieste. I attended two international fellowships in Breast surgery and microsurgery in the UK (NNUH – Norwich) and USA (New York, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center _ MSKCC). I worked as a consultant in a governmental hospital in Italy and after Covid time I received an offer and I moved with my husband to the UAE. It was quite unexpected.” She gave us a clear picture of her background.
Dr. Chiara Stocco’s inspiration to pursue a career in plastic reconstructive and aesthetic surgery stemmed from a deep desire to blend art with medicine, helping patients restore both form and function. Over the years, her journey has evolved through rigorous training, extensive experience in elite hospitals, and a commitment to staying at the forefront of surgical advancements.
“During my fifth year of medical school, I discovered my passion for enhancing patients’ quality of life through reconstructive and cosmetic surgical procedures. After training in Italy, where I handled complex cases following burns, cancer, and trauma, I now focus primarily on elective aesthetic surgery. Drawing on my background in reconstruction, I provide the highest level of safety and expertise to my patients, ensuring beautiful results and a secure surgical experience that enhances their self-esteem and well-being.” Dr. Chiara told us about her inspiration for choosing this career.
After completing a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Dr. Chiara pursued her specialist diploma in plastic reconstructive and aesthetic surgery from the University of Trieste in 2018, followed by a PhD in Nanotechnology. She discussed the significance of her PhD and said,
“I’ve always been fascinated by the underlying mechanisms of wound healing and the regenerative processes in medicine, which led me to apply for a highly selective and challenging PhD program. Over three years, I conducted hands-on research, working with stem cells in both in vitro and in vivo models. The ultimate aim was to develop a scaffold for vascular angiogenesis—work that, in essence, could potentially advance the field of regenerative medicine.”
Dr. Chiara’s expertise spans a wide range of procedures, with a particular focus on aesthetic breast surgery, including breast augmentation, breast lift, and breast reduction. She told us about the most rewarding aspects of performing aesthetic breast surgeries as,
“Many women’s confidence is linked to the appearance of their breasts, which can be impacted by malformation, weight loss, or pregnancy. While aesthetic procedures are not necessary for survival, they can greatly improve a woman’s self-esteem and quality of life when psychological well-being is affected.” She spoke.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Chiara is deeply committed to staying at the forefront of her field. She regularly participates in international conferences and training courses, ensuring to up to date with the latest techniques and advancements in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
“Keeping up with the latest advancements in plastic surgery is crucial for providing optimal care to patients. I am honoured to be a frequent faculty member and speaker at global conferences, where I can learn from colleagues, discover new trends, and evaluate emerging techniques. This helps me stay innovative and incorporate safe and effective practices into my work.” She affirmed.
Dr. Chiara Stocco recalls a particularly memorable case where plastic surgery profoundly transformed a patient’s life, restoring both their confidence and sense of self. This experience underscores the remarkable impact that skilled surgical intervention can have on a person’s physical and emotional well-being.
“A 25-year-old engineering student struggled socially due to loose skin after losing 40 kilograms. Through counselling and a full body contouring procedure, she gained confidence and joy in her new body. This case exemplifies the emotional benefits of plastic surgery supported by psychological preparation. It goes beyond physical changes, focusing on restoring self-esteem and allowing patients to reclaim their lives.” She blushed with pride.
Dr. Chiara Stocco emphasizes the importance of carefully balancing aesthetic goals with preserving her patients’ natural appearance, ensuring that each procedure enhances their unique features without compromising authenticity. She added,
“Growing up in Italy, I was surrounded by the art of Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, which heavily influenced my aesthetic surgery approach. I believe in achieving a balance between aesthetic goals and natural appearance. My surgeries enhance natural harmony, refining, and accentuating features rather than altering them, resulting in beautiful and harmonious results.”
