UAE Takes Center Stage in International Sports Medicine Conferences and Preparations

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has emerged as a prominent player in the field of sports medicine, showcasing its preparation and hosting capabilities at several prestigious international conferences. Dr. Hashel Al Tunaiji, Sports Medicine and Sciences Consultant and Chairman of the National Olympic Committee’s Sports Medicine Committee, represented the UAE in meetings held by the Executive Office and the Development Committee of the International and European Federation of Sports Medicine in Rome. During these meetings, discussions revolved around the preparations for hosting the International Federation of Sports Medicine International Conference 2024 in Dubai.

Dr. Al Tunaiji delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining the country’s preparations for this international event, which will take place from 24 to 27 October next year. The UAE’s invitation to host the conference marks a significant milestone, as it will be the first time the event is held in the country. The presentation was well-received, and the President of the International Federation of Sports Medicine, Professor Fabio Piguzzi, was officially invited to visit the UAE in mid-October to witness the progress of the preparations firsthand.

As part of the meetings, the UAE delegation also participated in the sports medicine conference organized by the Italian Federation of Sports Medicine. The conference featured esteemed guest speakers with international relevance and garnered attendance from national and international participants. In addition to their participation in European events, the UAE also played an active role in the Asian Sports Medicine Organisation meeting in Hangzhou, China. Dr. Abdullah Al-Rahoumi, Sports Medicine Consultant and National Olympic Committee vice-chairman of the medical committee, represented the UAE at the conference. The meeting served as the scientific summit of sports medicine in Asia, offering insights into the continent’s current and future sports medicine issues and topics. The upcoming 19th Asian Games, which will also be hosted by Hangzhou, were among the focal points of discussion.

During the meeting, Dr. Al-Rahoumi presented details about the World Organisation for Sports Medicine’s scientific conference scheduled for Dubai in October 2024. This conference is of utmost importance as it will follow the conclusion of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. It aims to highlight international efforts in ensuring athletes’ safety, advancements in developing physical performance from a scientific and medical perspective, recovery and injury treatment, and other significant topics related to sports medicine and science for high-level sports performance.
