Craving some lip-smacking street grub? Check out Dubai’s underground hotspots for a flavourful food adventure. With savoury kebabs and sweet treats on offer, it’s a feast for the senses that captures the essence of Dubai’s rich heritage.

This fresh food fest is an all-access pass to savour the newest flavours and culinary creations that reflect the vibrant culture of Dubai. Running until April 9, Karama’s Sheikh Hamdan Colony is the place to be with 55 restaurants serving up a special set menu and exclusive meal deals for Iftar and Suhoor.

But that’s not all – the entire neighbourhood is lit up with bright and bold Ramadan lights. From the streets and buildings to the cozy cafes and restaurants, it’s a dazzling display that truly captures the spirit of Ramadan.

Peeps from all walks of life are thronging to Dubai’s authentic street food scene. Families and squad of bachelors from different nationalities are chowing down on mouth-watering Indian street food. And guess what? You can also enjoy it for suhoor as the restaurants here are open until 4am.

Swedish nationals Hugo and Alice are among the many residents who have been flocking to this place for the last three days. “We lived in India for about six months, and this place completely transports us back with its vibrant street theme. Vendors lining up the streets, business owners calling out the names of the products, it’s a real feast for the senses,” said Alice.

“I am a crazy fan of Indian Ice Gola (candy made of crushed ice, dipped flavoured sugar syrup). When in India, I must have had nearly over 200 gola, which I really missed in Dubai. The moment I saw the video on social media platforms, I dragged Hugo to this place along with other friends,” said Alice

However, residents complained saying that finding parking is difficult. “I am trying to find parking for the last 30 minutes. My children forced me to come and experience this food festival, and what I see is that it is totally worth coming all the way from Ajman,” said Ahmed Mazen, an expat working in Ajman.

“This place has transformed like chowpatty in Mumbai. I see chat items, local Indian drinks like falooda and malai drinks, Kulfi, and much more at reasonable prices. Now my wife, Sameena is urging me to visit again,” said Mazen.

Entertainment sessions

The street food fiesta is not only a grub hub but also an entertainment hub for both kiddos and families.

The performers, including street dancers, thrill and captivate the crowd with their moves illuminated with flashy lights.

“This place is lit up with an electric and high-spirited crowd. The viewers love our acts and give us a boost of energy,” said a street artist who performs three times a day at this fest.

Excited vendors

This lit street food fest ain’t no joke! The star of the show here is the Uppulitta Amla (Indian gooseberry dipped in salt water and chili), Uppulitta mango (raw mango dipped in salt water and chili), Pulikki sarvat (drink from Kerala with a tinge of spices) and way more. Rahiman, the owner of the café, said that they’ll also be serving up Luqaimat and Rigag for the festival. According to him, the café is selling more than twice the amount of shawarmas than on a regular day!

In the world of foodies, there’s a café that’s known for its delicious chat items, which are always in demand. Though it takes approximately half an hour to deliver the food, this place is running like a cheetah post 9 pm. “God has been kind, business has been better than ever before,” said the salesman at the counter, giving credit to the authorities for organizing such an event that could help to give a boost to the economy.

“We have introduced a token system to let our guests know the exact delivery time of their orders,” added the salesman.

And for those who miss the taste of home, there are various international cuisines available, including Asian food that will remind you of home.

So, get your squad together, and don’t miss the opportunity to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
