‘Moana’ of Motunui to be back with a live-action remake soon, Dwayne Johnson partners with Disney
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has just dropped some major news that has the internet buzzing: a live-action version of his beloved Disney animated film, Moana, is in the works! The Hollywood superstar, who lent his voice to the character of Maui, took to Twitter to share the exciting news with his millions of followers.
“Humbled to say we’re bringing Moana’s beautiful story to the live-action big screen!” Johnson tweeted. “Maui changed my life (miss you grandpa) and I’m honoured to partner with Disney to tell our story through the realm of music and dance, which at the core is who we are as Polynesian people.”
For those who may not remember, the original 2016 film was set in ancient Polynesia and told the tale of Moana, the determined daughter of a chief, who sets sail on a daring mission to save her people. Along the way, she teams up with the charming and mischievous demigod Maui, who is voiced by none other than Johnson himself.
But the live-action version is sure to bring a fresh new take on the beloved story, as it will be told through the magic of music and dance, which are such important parts of Polynesian culture. And fans can rest assured that the film will stay true to its roots, as actor Auli’i Cravalho, who voiced Moana in the original animated film, will serve as executive producer alongside Scott Sheldon of Flynn Picture Co.
Of course, this isn’t the first time that Johnson has teamed up with Disney. He recently starred in the hit film Jungle Cruise, which was based on one of the company’s iconic theme park rides. And now, he’s bringing his trademark charisma and talent to another beloved Disney property.
The live-action Moana will be produced by Johnson’s own Seven Bucks Productions, in collaboration with Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia, who also worked on his DC Comics film, Black Adam. While there’s no word yet on when the film will be released, fans are already eagerly anticipating this exciting new project from one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
And Disney fans have even more to look forward to, as the company recently announced that they’re working on animated sequels for some of their most popular franchises, including Toy Story, Frozen, and Zootopia. While none of these films have a confirmed release date yet, fans can rest assured that they’re in good hands with the talented team at Disney.
