Masdar to Exhibit Renewable Energy Leadership on Global Stage at COP28
Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) is gearing up to demonstrate the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) commitment to renewable energy leadership at the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28).
As a Principal Pathway Partner for COP28, Masdar will have a prominent presence throughout the 12-day event, featuring a diverse program of events, activations, discussions, and forums. These activities, designed to engage a wide range of audiences, will also focus on supporting women sustainability leaders and young individuals interested in pursuing careers in the renewable energy sector.
Masdar’s exhibition stand, located within the Energy Transition Hub in COP28’s Green Zone, will showcase the company’s history and aspirations. Visitors to the stand will gain insight into Masdar’s pivotal role in supporting the UAE’s clean energy commitments. The UAE aims to become the world’s largest renewable energy company and a leader in green hydrogen by 2030, positioning the nation at the forefront of the global energy transition.
Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, stated, “Masdar takes pride in its pioneering role in advancing the clean energy sector and facilitating the UAE’s vision as a global sustainability and climate action leader. As a COP28 Principal Pathway Partner, we embrace this opportunity to showcase our proven track record in commercializing and deploying renewable energy and clean technologies to address the world’s sustainability challenges.”
COP28 will also highlight Masdar’s strategic initiatives, including Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), a global initiative supported by the UAE and championed by Masdar. ADSW aims to accelerate sustainable development and promote economic, social, and environmental progress.
Moreover, the Women in Sustainability, Environment, and Renewable Energy (WiSER) global platform, which advocates for women as leaders of sustainable change, and Youth 4 Sustainability (Y4S), dedicated to nurturing young leaders for sustainability, will host several events.
Al Ramahi added, “Masdar is committed to ensuring the success of COP28, led by our Chairman and COP28 President-Designate, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber. We recognize that the fight against climate change extends beyond COP28, and our special events program will emphasize the crucial roles that women and the next generation will play in leading global sustainability efforts.”
Masdar’s participation in COP28 will shine a spotlight on the company’s impressive track record in renewable energy since its establishment in 2006 under its founding CEO, and current Chairman, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, a pioneering figure in the global renewable energy sector for 17 years.
As the UAE’s clean energy champion, Masdar’s global footprint has expanded significantly in recent years, with new renewable energy projects underway in Europe, Africa, Central Asia, and the Americas. Notable projects include the Cirata floating solar plant in Indonesia, the largest in Southeast Asia, and the Garadagh Solar PV Plant, Azerbaijan’s inaugural foreign investment-based independent utility-scale solar project.
Presently active in over 40 countries across six continents, Masdar has developed more than 20GW of renewable energy capacity, invested upwards of US$30 billion, and is targeting a portfolio of 100GW by 2030.
