Indian Badminton Team Dominates Maldives in 2022 Asian Team Championships

The Indian men’s badminton team produced an impressive display to comfortably win its opening encounter of the 2022 Asian Team Championships against the Maldives in Manila on Tuesday.

The Indian team, led by Prannoy Kumar, won all five matches in straight sets, with the Maldives managing to win only 25 points in the entire tie. The Indian team was simply too strong for the Maldives, with Prannoy Kumar leading the way with a commanding performance in his singles match.

In the first match of the tie, Prannoy defeated Shaheed Ibrahim of the Maldives 21-3, 21-4 in just 17 minutes. He was in complete control from start to finish, showing his class and experience against an opponent who was simply outmatched.

The other Indian players also dominated their matches. In the second match of the tie, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated the Maldives’ pairing of Ibrahim Shaheed and Mohamed Rizwaan 21-9, 21-8 in just 19 minutes.

The Indian team continued to dominate in the remaining matches, with Lakshya Sen defeating Mohamed Sarim 21-5, 21-2, and the doubles pairing of MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila defeating Ahmed Nibal and Mohamed Sarim 21-2, 21-5.

Overall, it was an excellent start to the tournament for the Indian team, who will be looking to go all the way and win the title. They will now face Hong Kong in their next match, which is expected to be a much tougher encounter.

Prannoy Kumar, who was inspired by the Indian team’s performance, said: “It was a great start for us. We played some really good badminton and I am very happy with the way we performed. We will take this confidence into our next match against Hong Kong and look to continue our good form.”

The Asian Team Championships is a biennial badminton tournament for men and women, and features teams from all over Asia. The tournament is being held in Manila, Philippines, and will run from February 15 to 20, 2022.
