Get ready for a storm of excitement because Twister is coming back to the big screen! Universal and Amblin are partnering up once again, this time to bring us a “new chapter” of the classic 90s film. And the best part? Top Gun: Maverick breakout star, Glen Powell, is set to star alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones, the leading lady of Normal People.

Universal and Amblin are behind the project that will be directed by ‘Minari’ helmer Lee Isaac Chung.

This new version of the story won’t be a sequel, so we won’t be seeing the return of any of the original characters. Instead, we’ll be introduced to a whole new cast of storm chasers, and we can’t wait to see what they’ll bring to the table. The film will be directed by Lee Isaac Chung, who received critical acclaim for his work on Minari, with a screenplay by Mark L. Smith, who worked on the award-winning film The Revenant.

If you’re a fan of the original Twister, you’ll remember that it starred Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton as romantically estranged storm chasers. They faced rival storm chasers, a series of dangerous tornadoes, and their own complicated feelings for each other. The film was directed by Jan de Bont, produced by Frank Marshall, and had Steven Spielberg as an executive producer. The movie was a massive success, grossing almost $500 million worldwide, and featured THX sound design that was truly earth-shattering.

This time around, Daisy Edgar-Jones will star as a former storm chaser who survived a catastrophic tornado encounter and now works a desk job. But as you can probably guess, she’ll soon find herself back in the eye of the storm. Glen Powell, who recently starred in Top Gun: Maverick, will be joining her on the adventure.

Powell has been a hot commodity in Hollywood since his breakout performance in Top Gun: Maverick. He’s set to star in a Sony rom-com alongside Sydney Sweeney, and he’s also co-written and starred in a Richard Linklater-directed action comedy called Hitman.

While the new story is not a sequel, fans of the original 1996 film can expect a fresh and thrilling “new chapter” in the Twister saga. The first film, which grossed almost $500 million worldwide, starred Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton as storm chasers facing off against rival teams and a series of terrifying tornadoes. With ear-vibrating THX sound design and executive production from Steven Spielberg, Twister became a cult classic.

Powell, who recently shone as a breakout star in Top Gun: Maverick, is set to play opposite Sydney Sweeney in a Sony romantic comedy. He also co-wrote and stars in the upcoming action-comedy Hitman, directed by Richard Linklater.

Frank Marshall of Kennedy/Marshall Company will produce the film, which will be co-financed by Warner Bros. Pictures. Marshall’s wife, Kathleen Kennedy, current president of Lucasfilm, served as a lead producer on the original Twister.

Universal Pictures’ executive vp of production, Sara Scott, and creative executive, Jacqueline Garell, will oversee the project alongside Ashley Jay Sandberg for Kennedy/Marshall.

The film will be produced by Frank Marshall via his Kennedy/Marshall Company banner. Marshall’s wife, Kathleen Kennedy, who is currently the president of Lucasfilm, was a lead producer on the original Twister. The project will be co-financed by Warner Bros. Pictures.

We don’t have much more information about the new Twister movie just yet, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated as more details emerge. In the meantime, get ready to feel the wind in your hair, the thrill of adventure in your heart, and the fear of an impending tornado in your gut. This is going to be one wild ride.
