During the festive period of Eid Al Adha 1444 AH, the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) facilitated transportation for more than 6 million passengers.
During the celebratory occasion of Eid Al Adha 1444H, which took place from 27th to 30th June 2023, a significant increase in the number of riders utilizing public and shared transportation, as well as taxis, was observed. The total number of riders reached an impressive 6.396 million, reflecting a substantial 14 percent increase compared to the previous year’s figure of 5.615 million riders.
The metro system played a crucial role in accommodating the high volume of passengers during the holiday period. Ridership on both the Red and Green Lines of the metro reached a remarkable 2.388 million passengers. The metro’s efficient and reliable service attracted a large number of commuters who chose this mode of transport to navigate the city conveniently.
In addition to the metro, the tram system also contributed to the smooth movement of people during Eid Al Adha. A total of 104 thousand riders utilized the tram service, further enhancing the overall transportation experience for residents and visitors alike.
Public buses operated by the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) were also in high demand, serving 1.409 million riders during the festive period. Buses are an essential mode of transportation in the city, offering accessibility and connectivity to various destinations, allowing individuals to reach their desired locations comfortably.
The marine transport services provided by the RTA’s fleet of water buses and ferries proved popular among commuters during Eid Al Adha. A noteworthy 260 thousand passengers opted for marine transport, enjoying scenic journeys across the city’s waterways and benefiting from efficient and time-saving travel options.
Taxis continued to play a significant role in meeting the transportation needs of residents and tourists during the holiday. A substantial number of passengers, totaling 1.973 million, relied on taxis to conveniently navigate the city, availing themselves of the prompt and reliable service provided by taxi operators.
In line with the growing trend of shared mobility, various shared transportation options contributed to the overall transit services during Eid Al Adha. As many as 261 thousand riders opted for shared mobility means, taking advantage of ride-hailing services and other innovative solutions that provide convenient transportation alternatives.
The increase in ridership during Eid Al Adha 1444H reflects the confidence and trust placed by the public in the RTA’s transportation network. The efficient and extensive public transportation options, combined with the reliable taxi services, provided residents and visitors with seamless mobility solutions throughout the holiday period.
