Dubai’s Emirates is preparing for an expected increase in summer travel.
Emirates, the Dubai-based international airline, has expressed optimism for a strong recovery in customer demand this summer. The airline is preparing to welcome an expected surge in passenger numbers by adding five new Airbus A380s to its summer flights schedule, as well as increasing capacity to several markets.
Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ Chief Commercial Officer, spoke to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM 2023) in Dubai, saying that customer demand is still showing strong levels and that 2023 is expected to be a year of strong recovery. The airline currently operates a fleet of 85 A380s, which increases to 95 in the summer peak season by next March, serving 43 destinations.
Kazim said that Emirates operates around 3,080 departure flights per week, or over 440 flights per day for passengers within its global network. He revealed that the airline is considering adding more capacity to the North American market and other global markets, such as China, with the deployment of more aircraft into service, as well as the delivery of the first aircraft from its order for the Airbus A350.
Emirates is also planning to debut flights to five new cities, including London, Christchurch, Sydney, Melbourne, and Auckland, in addition to San Francisco (15th July), Singapore (1st June), and Houston (15th June).
Kazim also highlighted the airline’s commitment to sustainability, saying that Emirates is part of the sustainability initiatives taking place in the UAE, and that its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint are increasing in line with passenger growth. He added that Emirates has successfully completed a demonstration flight powered by 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), as part of the global aviation industry’s push to use more of the greener fuel to meet carbon emission targets.
At the ATM, Emirates received 16,000 visitors, held 300 business meetings, and signed eight agreements with travel and tourism agencies, indicating the strong interest in the airline and its services.
