Disney has found its leading lady for the highly anticipated live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch, and it’s none other than the talented Maia Kealoha. According to sources, the newcomer has landed the role of Lilo in the Disney+ feature, which is set to be a major release.

Directed by indie darling Dean Fleischer Camp, known for the Oscar-nominated animated film Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, the movie is a modern take on the 2002 animated classic that has garnered a devoted following over the years. The heartwarming story follows the friendship between a young girl named Lilo and a lovable alien named Stitch, who was created to be a weapon of mass destruction. As they navigate nosy social workers and persistent aliens, the two form an unbreakable bond and triumph over their adversaries.

Zach Galifianakis was previously announced to join the cast in February, and the character of Stitch will be brought to life through CG animation. The script for the adaptation was penned by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright.

Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback are producing the film, while Ryan Halprin of Rideback serves as executive producer. Disney declined to comment on the casting news.

Knight Edge Media broke the story, and fans are eagerly anticipating further updates on the highly anticipated remake. With a fresh new cast and modern take on the beloved classic, the live-action Lilo & Stitch promises to capture the hearts of a new generation while remaining true to its roots.
