Ann D”Silva One of the Most Respected Business to Government Specialists
By Jules Lavallee
Ann D’Silva is an Indian writer who hails from Mumbai, she spent over two decades in the corporate world in senior management roles across the globe, before she chose to give up defined routine and pursue her calling as a writer. She is a humanitarian, passionate about subjects swept under the carpet, a social impact champion and a thought change advocate.
She is a recognized speaker on the power of storytelling, women’s role in the 21st century, cultural inclusion, diversity and women empowerment. Her niche is that she only writes women-oriented stories and stands with risen phoenixes in their victory over darkness. Her love for diversity is why she chooses different countries to develop the premise for each story, based on its ethos, language, culture and history, to give her audience an opportunity to understand the struggle of women in different parts of the world and to journey with these characters. Her books have strong global messages impacting women, to start a dialogue to factor change. Ann relocated to Turkey in 2019 and now lives in İstanbul.
You are one of the most respected Business to Government Specialists. Tell us about your background.
Thank you for the kind introduction. While there are many established specialists in the Business to Government (B2G) space, I consider myself a new entrant with five years of experience in this field. My journey began with my relocation to Turkey, where I focused on my books and engaged in pro bono work aimed at social change. This experience allowed me to build a wide network and gain a deep understanding of the unique dynamics that govern relationships between businesses and government entities across various sectors.
Prior to my move to Turkey, I spent three decades in corporate roles across diverse industries, primarily focused on strategic partnerships and business development in new markets. This background has provided me with a solid foundation in understanding governmental processes and the intricacies involved in addressing the needs of specific sectors.
Over the past five years, I have collaborated with a diverse range of clients, from startups to large corporations, helping them navigate complexities to enhance their market reach. My expertise includes creating opportunities, adding value, and managing contract negotiations and compliance.
I have come to appreciate the importance of relationship building and human connection, recognizing that collective growth benefits everyone involved. I actively participate in workshops and seminars organized by trade and commerce chambers and international conferences to stay updated on emerging trends.
Overall, my commitment to fostering collaborative relationships between businesses and government agencies is driven by a passion for creating mutually beneficial outcomes. I am eager to leverage my background and skills to contribute to the objectives of the public sector.
Current Highlight in My B2G Work: Global Mobility Projects
A key highlight of my current work in the B2G sector is my involvement in global mobility projects focused on tourism and residency. These initiatives aim to enhance cross-border travel and facilitate residency options, promoting cultural exchange and economic growth.
By collaborating with government agencies, we are developing strategies to streamline visa processes and improve tourism infrastructure and residency programs that align with national interests. This work not only supports local economies but also fosters international partnerships and enhances the overall travel experience for visitors.
I am excited about the potential of these projects to contribute to sustainable development while strengthening ties between governments and global communities.
Your experience in film has led you to be instrumental in pairing film locations in various countries. Take us through some of your work.
My books have generated interest among prominent figures in Turkish and Indian cinema for potential film or series adaptations. I believe this opportunity will be mutually beneficial for both countries, fostering creative collaboration, talent exchange, economic growth, and strengthened friendships. Art serves as a powerful medium for building bridges and breaking down barriers, and I am hopeful that this project will come to fruition in 2025.
What strides have you made when it comes to investments?
I believe that value-creating investments will emerge as a priority. In a world filled with obstacles and challenges, solution providers are increasingly sought after. Both governments and businesses are focused on value creation, which is essential for sustainable growth.
Share your vision for 2025.
In 2025, I envision a greater emphasis on social impact and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) programs within the B2G sector. Key initiatives will include:
Government Procurement for Social Good : Prioritizing social enterprises and minority-owned businesses to promote economic inclusion and community development.
Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs): Collaborative projects between government and private entities addressing social needs, such as schools, hospitals, and affordable housing, aligning with SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).
Green Procurement Policies: Encouraging businesses to provide sustainable products and services, supporting SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
Digital Inclusion Initiatives: Aiming to improve access to technology for underserved populations, which aligns with SDG 9 and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequality).
A particular passion of mine lies in B2G initiatives that support the SDGs by promoting inclusion, diversity, and cultural sharing. Through partnerships with government entities, we are developing programs that encourage cultural exchange and participation from diverse communities. Collaborative projects in cinema and the arts not only preserve cultural heritage but also promote mutual respect and understanding among different communities.
These initiatives align closely with SDG 10 (Reduced Inequality) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). I believe that by championing inclusion and cultural sharing, we can create a more equitable world that benefits everyone.
In summary, I have illustrated how B2G relationships can effectively create value through economic opportunities and growth while at the same time addressing social issues and contributing to the achievement of the SDGs.
I firmly believe that giving back is the only way forward. My favorite quote is “Blessed are those who are a blessing to others.” In these challenging times, clinging to self-interest can be destructive. The only path to a better world is to embody the change we wish to see and work together to address the wrongs around us. I believe without doubt that each one of us can write a new narrative of friendship, collaboration, and harmony, transcending individual, corporate, and governmental boundaries.
Together we are stronger than individually, letting us use our collective wisdom and strength daily, wherever and as whoever we are. Every life is a story. I hope we never lose sight of how unique each one is and continue to positively impact lives wherever we go; for humanity and as spiritual beings on this beautiful human journey.
