The Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (ADARL) is a self-driving automobile tournament held in Abu Dhabi. The Abu Dhabi government started the league in 2019 and claims to be the world’s first autonomous automobile racing competition. The tournament consists of a series of races in which teams of engineers and programmers compete utilizing self-driving automobiles. Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League, established by ASPIRE, aims to advance R&D in autonomous vehicles, and AI, pushing the boundaries of the future of mobility. The league will begin with an autonomous car race in the second quarter of 2024.

The cars are equipped with sensors and cameras that allow them to navigate the race track without human intervention. The ADARL is seen as an opportunity to advance the development of autonomous driving technology and to promote Abu Dhabi as a hub for innovation in the field. It also aims to raise awareness about the potential of self-driving cars to improve road safety and reduce traffic congestion. The league has attracted teams from around the world and is expected to grow in popularity in the coming years.

The first race will take place in the second quarter of 2024, and the race league will consist of a series of autonomous car races with a prize pool of up to $2.25 million. Dallara will assist in the development of Super Formula race cars for the league, thanks to the Japan Race Promotion (JRP). The Autonomous Racing League’s primary purpose is to “push the boundaries of autonomous mobility” by hosting challenges to enhance research and development in autonomous racing and artificial intelligence (AI). According to organizers, the driverless car race will be the first in a series of autonomous vehicle races in the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League, which will begin in 2024.
