Sharjah Ruler Inks MoU Between University of Kalba and Monash University

Sharjah, UAE – September 10, 2023 – H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, alongside his role as the President of the University of Kalba (UOK), has officially signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Australia’s prestigious Monash University. Professor Susan Albert, Vice Chancellor of Monash University, represented the Australian institution at the signing ceremony.

The Sharjah Ruler underscored the importance of fostering academic and scientific partnerships with renowned global institutions, emphasizing that such collaborations contribute significantly to elevating the quality of education in Sharjah’s colleges and universities. These collaborations also open doors to a diverse array of new specializations, enhancing educational offerings.

Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi commended the ongoing and successful collaboration between UOK and Monash University, which has resulted in the establishment of numerous joint scientific programs. These initiatives have played a pivotal role in advancing knowledge exchange and curricula development, further enriching the academic landscape. He also highlighted that the MoU would significantly enhance UOK’s specialization in sports sciences.

Under the terms of the MoU, the collaboration between Kalba and Monash Universities will be expanded, particularly in the realm of bachelor’s degree programs in physical education and sports sciences. These programs will align with Monash University’s curriculum standards. Additionally, the agreement outlines plans for future collaboration in various sectors, including science, education, and pedagogy, across different academic levels. These collaborative efforts aim to provide specialized services and foster joint scientific research endeavors.

Professor Susan Albert, Vice Chancellor of Monash University, expressed her gratitude to the Ruler of Sharjah for the enduring cooperation between Monash University and educational institutions in Sharjah, which has been ongoing since 2004. She praised the visionary approach of the Ruler of Sharjah in disseminating knowledge, culture, and heritage through the establishment of universities, academic programs, and scientific partnerships with foreign institutions.

Professor Susan Albert highlighted the significance of the sports sciences program that the University of Kalba will introduce, marking it as the first of its kind in the emirate of Sharjah. This program offers a wide range of specializations, including sports health, sports sciences, and physical education. She emphasized that the collaborative agreement between the two universities would produce graduates who excel in sportsmanship and are equipped to inspire the next generation to engage in various sporting activities.

During the meeting, attendees, including the Ruler of Sharjah, were treated to a visual presentation showcasing Monash University and its diverse academic offerings, as well as a glimpse into the various activities and events available to students.

The meeting concluded with the Ruler of Sharjah presenting a commemorative shield from the University of Kalba to Professor Susan Albert. In return, he received a souvenir from Monash University as a token of appreciation.

The signing ceremony of the MoU was attended by distinguished individuals, including Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of the Department of Government Relations; Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi, Head of the Protocol and Hospitality Department; Dr. Muhadditha Al Hashimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Private Education Authority; members of the Board of Trustees of the University of Kalba; and representatives of Monash University in Australia.

The MoU between the University of Kalba and Monash University signifies a significant step towards advancing education and scientific collaboration, enhancing the academic landscape, and fostering global partnerships in the pursuit of knowledge and innovation. It reflects the commitment of both institutions to providing students with access to world-class educational opportunities and resources.
