Qatar’s Hamad International Airport recorded a year-on-year surge in passenger traffic of 44.5 per cent to reach 10.31 million in the first quarter of 2023, with trips to London, Bangkok, and Dhaka helping to drive the increase. The airport also saw an increase in aircraft movement by 18 per cent, reaching 56,417 in the first quarter of 2023. According to Qatar News Agency, the airport received 3.56 million passengers in January, 3.24 million in February, and 3.5 million in March.

Hamad International Airport handled over 540,000 tons of cargo and moved over 8 million bags during the first quarter. Badr Mohammad Al-Meer, chief operating officer of Hamad International Airport, said, “These numbers demonstrate the resilience of our industry and the vital role that airports play in connecting people. We will always strive toward excellence and ensure that Hamad International Airport remains the top choice for passengers traveling to and from the Middle East and the world.”

The airport’s busiest destinations during the first quarter of the year were London, Bangkok, Dhaka, Manila, and Jeddah. Al-Meer added, “With our robust operations and investment in our growth plans, we will continue to magnify our airport infrastructure and product offering to reinforce our competitive position in the aviation industry.”

Hamad International Airport is the second-best airport in the world, according to the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2023, and has won titles for “World’s Best Airport Shopping” and “Best Airport in the Middle East” for the ninth time in a row. The airport has consistently improved its services and infrastructure to provide a seamless travel experience for passengers.

As part of the airport operations plan of Qatar Co. for Airports Operation and Management, Hamad International Airport and Doha International Airport enhanced their operations during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and introduced customer-centric activities and processes to deliver a safe, seamless, and memorable experience.

Inaugurated in 2014, Hamad International Airport is home to Qatar Airways, the national carrier of Qatar. The airport has contributed to the growth of the aviation industry in the region and has played a significant role in connecting Qatar with the rest of the world.

The surge in passenger traffic at Hamad International Airport during the first quarter of 2023 is a testament to the airport’s commitment to providing an excellent travel experience for passengers. The airport’s investment in infrastructure and services has paid off, and it continues to grow as a leading hub for travel in the Middle East and beyond.

Despite the pandemic’s negative impact on the industry, Hamad International Airport has managed to consistently increase its passenger traffic year after year. This trend is likely to continue, given the airport’s focus on improving infrastructure and enhancing the passenger experience.

In addition to being home to Qatar Airways, Hamad International Airport is also a hub for other airlines, providing easy access to destinations in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. The airport’s location in Qatar’s capital city of Doha also makes it a popular transit point for travelers en route to other parts of the Middle East.

The airport’s focus on customer-centric activities and processes, such as enhancing safety measures, introducing new technology, and offering world-class amenities, has contributed to its success. It has also received numerous accolades for its services, including being ranked as the second-best airport in the world in March 2023, along with winning titles for “World’s Best Airport Shopping” and “Best Airport in the Middle East” for the ninth consecutive year.

Hamad International Airport’s growth in passenger traffic is also a positive sign for the wider economy of Qatar, as it generates significant revenue for the country.
