The United Arab Emirates has introduced a new national railway network, as announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The network connects four significant ports in the country and seven logistical areas, with an annual transport capacity of 60 million tonnes of goods.

“It was accomplished with the support of 180 federal and local authorities who collaborated for over 133 million hours, led by Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed,” Sheikh Mohammed said on Twitter.

The network is expected to have an estimated economic impact of AED 200 billion by 2050.

Sheikh Mohammed said: “UAE today successfully launched the national railway network. It connects four major ports in the country and seven logistical areas, and transports 60 million tonnes of goods annually. Our train network enhances our economy.”

Calling the network a national strategic project, Sheikh Mohammed said it will have an economic impact of Dh200 billion until 2050. “It was accomplished with the cooperation of 180 federal and local authorities who worked 133 million working hours.”

Etihad Rail is the developer and operator of the UAE’s national railway network.

The launch of the national railway network marks a significant milestone in the country’s infrastructure development plan. This modern transportation system will facilitate the movement of goods across the UAE and enhance the country’s economic competitiveness.
