Egyptian President in Dubai to attend World Government Summit 2023
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi arrived in Dubai today to participate in the World Government Summit (WGS) 2023. Al Sisi is leading a high-level Egyptian delegation participating in the Summit. Egypt is the Guest of Honour at this year’s World Government Summit.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, received the Egyptian President upon his arrival at the Dubai International Airport.
At his meeting with Ms Okonjo-Iweala, Sheikh Mohammed said the UAE remains committed to working closely with global institutions and the international community to improve trade.
They discussed ways to build resilience and stability in the global trading system, and create a more equitable global economy that benefits everyone.
Bin Rahsid also highlighted Egypt’s pioneering role in defending Arab causes as well as Egypt’s inspiring political leadership. He also underscored the special status of Egypt as well as Egyptians to the Emirati nation.
Al-Sisi further explained that the special relations between Egypt and the United Arab Emirates represent an important basis for preserving Arab security and interests in the region.
Sheikh Mohammed also met Kuwait’s Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al Sabah and discussed regional and international issues.
Sisi, onstage at the summit for what was billed as an interview with a journalist, launched into a monologue praising the UAE and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed for his aid after the 2013 overthrow.
“The first to highlight is the support I have received from our brothers,” Sisi said. “Everything I said would not have been possible without the support we received.”
“Reality may be different from what we see in the media or what we hear from politicians … even when it’s politicians who think they are in control,” Sisi said. “Make sure to thank God for the generosity we have received.”
This year’s edition of the WGS, which commenced today, has brought together more than 250 ministers and over 10,000 government officials, thought leaders and experts from across the world. The Summit features more than 220 sessions. Over 300 global speakers will be sharing their vision and discussing ideas and strategies for shaping a new future for governments.
Mr El Sisi was speaking in the presence of President Sheikh Mohamed and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, and he thanked the UAE’s leaders for assistance given to his country over the past few years.
He singled out Sheikh Mohamed for his support early in his presidency when Egypt was suffering a lack of fuel and people were queuing for petrol at stations across the country.
The World Government Summit 2023 features a set of interactive dialogue sessions covering six key themes: Accelerating Development and Governance, Future of Societies and Healthcare, Exploring the Frontiers, Governing Economic Resilience and Connectivity, Global City Design and Sustainability, and Prioritising Learning and Work.
The WGS will present seven global awards in appreciation of government ministers, representatives of the private sector, innovators and creators, who have exceptionally contributed to providing a better society for humanity.
The awards include the Edge of Government Award; the Best Minister Award; the World Data Visualisation Prize; the M-Gov Award and Shaping Future Governments: Global Universities Challenge, WAM noted.
